Our collection curator, Dawn, shared, “When I was eight years old, I went through the cancelled stamps saved in my parents’ closet for overseas donations. I felt like they were too good for the missionaries, and what could they possibly use them for anyway? I liked the history, the images, and the raised intaglio printing, similar to illustrations in my beloved books, but they were perfectly miniaturized. Later in college, as a fine arts student, I learned how to etch plates and print images like those stamps.
Our mission grew naturally from these early passions. My childhood interests turned into educational pursuits, which informed my occupations, and I use all these experiences to evaluate coins, paper money, stamps, art, and other collectibles. Plus, it’s fun—always being on a treasure hunt.”
