Our collection curator, Dawn, shared, “When I was eight years old, I went through the cancelled stamps saved in my parents’ closet for overseas donations. I felt like they were too good for the missionaries, and what could they possibly use them for anyway? I liked the history, the images, and the raised intaglio printing, similar to illustrations in my beloved books, but they were perfectly miniaturized. Later in college, as a fine arts student, I learned how to etch plates and print images like those stamps. My childhood interests turned into educational pursuits, which informed my occupations, and I use all these experiences to evaluate coins, paper money, stamps, art, and other collectibles. Plus, it’s fun, always being on a treasure hunt.
