Sell Your Chinese Gold Panda Coins to DEIGOLDAND SILVERCOINS

The Chinese Gold Panda remains one of the most recognized and sought-after gold coins in the world. First issued by the Chinese Mint in 1982, these coins are admired by both collectors and investors for their artistry, purity, and annual design changes. At DEIGOLDANDSILVERCOINS, we specialize in buying Gold coins, including Chinese Gold Panda coins of all weights and years, directly from individuals who are ready to sell.

History of the Chinese Gold Panda Coin

The debut Chinese Gold Panda coins appeared in 1982, initially struck in 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz sizes, each containing .999 fine gold. A 1/20 oz coin was added the following year. The series gained a strong following, thanks in part to the tradition of featuring a new Giant Panda design on the reverse annually.

The Chinese Mint has kept the tradition alive since then, with only one repeat design in 2002, which was quickly followed by a fresh design in 2003 due to strong feedback from collectors.

Designs of the Chinese Gold Panda Coin

The obverse of every Gold Panda coin features the Temple of Heaven in Beijing, with the Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests as the central element. The year of issue appears near the steps, with the inscription “Zhonghua Renmin Gongheguo” (“People’s Republic of China”) above.

The reverse showcases a new Giant Panda design each year, capturing this beloved black-and-white bear in various poses. This yearly change is a hallmark of the series, making each coin distinctive.

Weight, Denominations, and Changes Over Time

From 1982 to 2000, Gold Pandas were issued in Troy ounce weights with the following face values:

  • 1 oz – 100 Yuan
  • 1/2 oz – 50 Yuan
    1/4 oz – 25 Yuan
  • 1/10 oz – 10 Yuan
  • 1/20 oz – 5 Yuan

In 2001, denominations increased:

  • 1 oz – 500 Yuan
  • 1/2 oz – 200 Yuan
  • 1/4 oz – 100 Yuan
  • 1/10 oz – 50 Yuan
  • 1/20 oz – 20 Yuan

In 2016, weights shifted from ounces to the metric system:

  • 30 Gram – 500 Yuan
  • 15 Gram – 200 Yuan
  • 8 Gram – 100 Yuan
  • 3 Gram – 50 Yuan
  • 1 Gram – 20 Yuan

These adjustments also brought slight changes in coin diameters, though the purity and iconic designs remained.

Are There Collectible Chinese Gold Panda Coins?

At DEIGOLDANDSILVERCOINS, we don’t just buy standard bullion; we also purchase collectible Chinese Gold Panda coins. While the Chinese Gold Panda is primarily issued as a bullion investment coin, there are highly sought-after collectible versions we are eager to acquire. For example, between 1986 and 1992, the Chinese Mint briefly issued Gold Panda proof sets for collectors, featuring a circular “P” mark on the reverse.

Additionally, the mint has produced rare, low-mintage coins above 1 oz, including 5 oz and 12 oz versions issued intermittently. Since 1997, the Chinese Mint has also released 1 1-kilogram gold Panda coins in extremely limited quantities, such as the first-year mintage of just 58 coins! These rare releases often carry significant collector premiums, and we are always interested in purchasing them.

Other Options When Selling Gold Pandas

We also buy Chinese Gold Panda coins from various years, including random-date pieces. These can range from early classics to more modern issues, depending on what you’re selling. For example, if you bring us a 1 oz Gold Panda, it could date anywhere between 1982 and 2015, while 30 Gram Gold Pandas generally date from 2016 onward.

We purchase both “sealed” and “unsealed” coins. A sealed coin remains in the original plastic pouch from the Chinese Mint, while an unsealed coin has been removed from its original packaging but is still in excellent condition. Whether your Gold Panda is sealed or unsealed, modern or vintage, standard or proof, we are ready to evaluate it and make you a competitive offer.
