Established by the July 9, 1985, passage of the Liberty Coin Act, the uncirculated American Silver Eagle Coin is the official silver bullion product of the United States. Investors and collectors highly seek after these coins, and at DEIGOLDANDSILVERCOINS, we purchase them directly from customers. Each coin contains 1 Troy oz of .999 pure silver backed by the United States government. The American Silver Eagle remains one of the most popular silver bullion coins available today.
The American Silver Eagle coins from the United States Mint are issued in three versions. The collectible versions are the Proof Silver Eagle and Burnished Silver Eagle, both featuring stunning luster, matte finishes, and mirrored elements that collectors value. The uncirculated American Silver Eagle is the standard bullion version, ideal for diversifying a retirement portfolio, and we purchase these investment-grade silver coins from customers in any quantity.
The United States Mint released the American Silver Eagle for the first time in 1986, with coins available for purchase on November 24, 1986. Each Silver Eagle is a 1 oz silver coin with a face value of $1 (USD), backed by the federal government. Uncirculated Silver Eagles arrive in BU condition from the US Mint. A brilliant uncirculated coin shows no wear but may have minor contact marks, spotted surfaces, or breaks in luster.
Under the Liberty Coin Act, the United States Mint is required to produce uncirculated American Silver Eagles annually to meet investor demand. In 2009, with silver demand surging, the US Mint suspended production of proof and burnished coins to dedicate all silver blanks to uncirculated Silver Eagles. The uncirculated coin has been struck every year since 1986, while the proof coin was suspended in 2009, and the burnished coin in 2009 and 2010.
All American Silver Eagle coins feature the same design. The obverse displays Adolph A. Weinman’s iconic Walking Liberty design from the U.S. half-dollar (1916-1947). Lady Liberty strides toward the sun with the American flag over her shoulders, carrying oak and laurel branches in her left arm. The inscriptions include “Liberty” above her figure, “In God We Trust” at her heel, and the year of issue along the bottom.
The original reverse design, by John Mercanti, was used for 35 years. In 2021, a new reverse by Emily Damstra debuted, showing a bald eagle building its nest. Damstra’s design emphasizes realism, highlighting individual feathers and talons. Coins with Mercanti’s reverse are Type I, and those with Damstra’s reverse are Type II.
We offer the MintSealed program for sellers. Coins from Monster Boxes arrive at our vault, and our team verifies that tubes of 20 coins have not been handled or tampered with. Each tube is resealed in protective plastic with a MintSealed sticker and QR code detailing the coins inside. This ensures customers receive maximum value for their uncirculated Silver Eagles.
Most uncirculated Silver Eagles have been minted at the West Point Mint since 2001. Initially, the San Francisco Mint produced proof and uncirculated coins from 1986 until 1998. Philadelphia handled production in 1999-2000 before the transition to West Point. San Francisco sometimes assists during high-demand periods.
